18 Vlad Rabich: Employment – focus on the low wage labor market, the opportunites that poor people do and don’t have to ‘escape poverty’ – how has the low wage labor market changed, how does welfare help to maintain a “wage floor”, also talk about undocumented labor, prison labor, the ‘wal-mart effect’ politics of dead end jobs, the service sector, the ‘feminization’ of the low wage labor market, and the regulation of the low wage labor market – minimum wage, labor laws/protections (organizing, health and safety, etc…) – talk about the idea of ‘contingent labor’ or ‘precarious employment’

My topic that I will be focusing on as you can see from the title will be taxes as a general topic, but I will touch on corporate welfare and how taxes affect them as a company,I will of course talk about the welfare of the people and how taxes affect us as people, what programs are bing supported the most through taxes, the reasons why taxes is attack so much,etc.... I will pretty much capture what taxes do or has done for our society and the benefit of it whether wealthy or poor.

Introduction
My project is about social security and pensions. What I really wanted to do is basically describe what each one is and their differences. I also wanted to talk about how people can get either one of them, what are certain procedures and limitations. Also I wanted to briefly discuss privatizing social security and how will it affect everyone.
Resources
1. “Increased Wealth and Income as Correlates of Self-Assessed Retirement.” Preview By: Caputo, Richard K.. Journal of Gerontological Social Work, 2006, Vol. 47 Issue 1/2, p175-201, 27p, 3 charts; (AN 23103626) I chose this article because it talks about retirement, how people should retire and what are their choices of supporting themselves. 2. “Opting out of social security” Preview By: Smetters, Kent; Walliser, Jan. Journal of Public Economics, Jul2004, Vol. 88 Issue 7/8, p1295, 12p; DOI: 10.1016/S0047-2727(02)00180-9; (AN 12042148) I chose this article because it states all the positives for privatizing social security. 3. “WELFARE REFORM IN AMERICA.” Preview By: Mead, Lawrence. Family Matters, Winter2000 Issue 56, p34-39, 6p, 2 bw; (AN 3906239) This article is great because it talks about how government reformed the welfare system and how it is going to affect the future generations. 4. “Integration of unemployment insurance with retirement insurance” Preview By: Stiglitz, Joseph E.; Yun, Jungyoll. Journal of Public Economics, Dec2005, Vol. 89 Issue 11/12, p2037-2067, 31p; DOI: 10.1016/j.jpubeco.2004.12.007; (AN 19003686) This article talks about private pension plans and how they work. 5. “Do changes in pension incentives affect retirement? A longitudinal study of subjective retirement expectations” Preview By: Chan, Sewin; Stevens, Ann Huff. Journal of Public Economics, Jul2004, Vol. 88 Issue 7/8, p1307, 27p; DOI: 10.1016/S0047-2727(02)00223-2; (AN 12042149) This article talks about how a person can chose what kind of pension they want and it shows the possible options that they have.’
Social security
I will discuss what is social security, how and when do you get it and what are its pros and cons. I would also like to talk about privatizing social security and whether or not it is better to do so.
Pension
Here I will talk about how pensions work, what different types of pensions are there and how can you acquire one.
Comparison
The main thing that I would like to work on is to find all the differences and similarities of social security and pensions. I want to talk about which is better for people and whether or not you can have both.
